Yogyakarta, August 28, 2026 – The Yogyakarta Special Region chapter of the Indonesian Dragon and Lion Dance Sports Federation (FOBI) held the 2026 FOBI Yogyakarta Regional Judges Training from August 28 to 30, 2026, in Yogyakarta.
The training was attended by 14 participants and formed part of FOBI Yogyakarta’s development program aimed at improving the quality and competence of human resources, particularly competition officials in dragon and lion dance sports across the Yogyakarta Special Region.
The three-day training program included instructional sessions, an in-depth review of competition regulations, as well as theoretical and practical examinations. Through this program, participants are expected to gain a stronger understanding of FOBI’s judging standards and develop the skills required to carry out their duties professionally, objectively, and with integrity.
Chairman of FOBI Yogyakarta Special Region, Roy Setiyanto, said that the Regional Judges Training is an important step toward improving the quality of competition officials in Yogyakarta.
“Through this training, we hope that participants will not only gain a deeper understanding of competition regulations and judging techniques, but also uphold integrity and objectivity in carrying out their duties. Judges play a very important role in maintaining the quality and sportsmanship of a competition,” said Roy Setiyanto.
Roy also expressed his hope that the participants would become part of a stronger pool of competition officials in the Yogyakarta Special Region and contribute to the continued development of dragon and lion dance sports in the region.
President of the Indonesian Dragon and Lion Dance Sports Federation (FOBI), Edy Kusuma, also welcomed the organization of the 2026 FOBI Yogyakarta Regional Judges Training. He emphasized that improving the quality of judges at the regional level is an important part of building a more professional and standardized competition system throughout Indonesia.
“The quality of a competition is determined not only by the abilities of the athletes, but also by the quality of the competition officials. We hope that this training will produce competent judges who demonstrate integrity and are capable of carrying out their duties in accordance with FOBI’s standards and regulations,” said Edy Kusuma.
For the training program, FOBI assigned three instructors: Andrean Wijaya, Wan Gust Halim, and Frendy Sulistyo. The three instructors provided participants with training and guidance on various aspects of judging and competition regulations in accordance with FOBI standards.
The first day of the program began with participant registration and an opening ceremony, followed by training sessions. The program continued on the second day with further instruction and an in-depth review of the training materials. On the final day, participants were scheduled to take theoretical and practical examinations as part of the evaluation process before the program concluded.
The 2026 FOBI Yogyakarta Regional Judges Training was supported by the Yogyakarta Special Region Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI DIY), D’Senopati Malioboro Grand Hotel, and The Malioboro Hotel & Conference Center. Their support contributed to the successful implementation of the program and to FOBI Yogyakarta’s efforts to improve the quality of competition officials in the region.
Through this training program, FOBI hopes to develop more competition officials in the Yogyakarta Special Region who meet the federation’s standards. The presence of qualified judges is expected to contribute to more professional, fair, and high-quality competitions, while further strengthening the development and achievement of dragon and lion dance sports in Indonesia.
