68 Participants from 17 Provinces Attend the 2026 National Lion Dance Coaches Training and Certification Program

Surabaya, August 2, 2026 – The Indonesian Dragon and Lion Dance Sport Federation (PB FOBI), in collaboration with the East Java Provincial Dragon and Lion Dance Sport Federation (FOBI East Java), successfully held the 2026 National Lion Dance Coaches Training and Certification Program on August 1-2, 2026, at Grand Whiz Hotel Praxis Surabaya.

The program brought together 68 participants from 17 provinces across Indonesia, ranging from North Sumatra to Papua. The participants, consisting of lion dance coaches and practitioners, attended the program as part of the national coaching certification program.

The event was officially opened by PB FOBI Executive Chairman Arifin Himawan, representing PB FOBI President Edy Kusuma. Also in attendance were PB FOBI Secretary General Hery Lim, PB FOBI Deputy Secretary General Andrean Wijaya, members of the PB FOBI Executive Board and local trainers, FOBI East Java President Chandra Wurianto Woo as the host representative, and Organizing Committee Chairman Jackson Cheowandy.

Throughout the two-day program, participants attended sessions covering coaching methodology, fundamental and advanced lion dance techniques, training program development, and practical coaching sessions. PB FOBI invited Cheah Kwong Leang from Malaysia as the lead trainer, who shared his expertise and international experience in lion dance coaching and athlete development.

PB FOBI President Edy Kusuma emphasized the important role of coaches in developing athletes throughout Indonesia.

“Athletes’ achievements are closely connected to the dedication and guidance of their coaches from the very beginning. Through this training and certification program, we hope to produce more competent coaches with strong technical knowledge and the ability to implement coaching methods that keep pace with the continued development of lion dance sport,” said Edy Kusuma.

In addition to the training sessions, the program also provided an opportunity for participants from different provinces to exchange ideas and share experiences in athlete development and coaching practices.

The National Lion Dance Coaches Training and Certification Program is one of PB FOBI’s initiatives to establish consistent coaching standards across Indonesia. It is expected that the knowledge and experience gained during the program will be applied in each participant’s respective region, contributing to the continued development of lion dance sport nationwide.

The program concluded with highly positive evaluation results. It achieved an overall average score of 4.33 out of 5, with a Participant Satisfaction Index of 4.47. Furthermore, 100% of participants stated that they would recommend the program to others. All aspects of the program, including event organization, curriculum and training materials, instructors, and coaching competencies, received ratings ranging from Good to Excellent, reflecting the positive experience and value gained by the participants throughout the program.
