The Provincial Board of the Indonesian Lion Dance Sports Federation (FOBI) of Lampung held its Provincial Congress (Musprov) at the meeting room of Yayasan Suaka Insan, Bandar Lampung, on Sunday (February 8, 2026). The congress served as a strategic momentum to elect a new chairman while strengthening the direction of athlete development and the future growth of lion dance as a competitive sport in Lampung Province.
The Musprov received full support from the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) of Lampung Province. Vice Chairman IV of KONI Lampung, Ahmad Chrisna, emphasized that lion dance is no longer merely a cultural performance, but has officially become a competitive sport under KONI. He noted that lion dance has strong public appeal and great potential to be developed evenly across districts and municipalities.
“We fully support this Provincial Congress. We hope the new management will be more active, especially in establishing district and city-level organizations through roadshow programs. Areas such as Mesuji, Tulang Bawang, Tulang Bawang Barat, and Lampung Barat need broader socialization,” said Ahmad Chrisna. He expressed confidence that through performances and competitions, lion dance can become a valuable sporting asset for Lampung Province.
In addition to performance development, KONI Lampung is also promoting the integration of lion dance into its Sport Ecotourism program currently being developed at the Taman Kehati area in Kota Baru. The area is projected to become an environmentally oriented sports hub that can attract tourists while supporting local economic growth.
Representing the Chairman of the National Board of FOBI, Edy Kusuma, the Daily Chairman of PB FOBI, Arifin Himawan, highlighted the importance of visionary leadership with a strong focus on achievement. He conveyed that Edy Kusuma, a native of Lampung, has a deep commitment to the revival and advancement of sports development in the region and encourages concrete breakthroughs so that Lampung athletes can compete at both national and international levels.
“Development in Lampung must continue to progress. Our competition assessment system refers to international standards, ensuring that our athletes are not constrained by regulations when competing on the global stage,” Arifin explained. He added that PB FOBI aligns with KONI’s vision of integrating sports with tourism and the people’s economy, as demonstrated through the organization of National Lion Dance Championships in Bali and Yogyakarta. Going forward, Lampung has strong potential to host major national and even international events, especially as the province prepares to bid for the 2032 National Sports Week (PON).
During the Provincial Congress, Syalendra Sinwijaya Evan was officially elected as Chairman of the FOBI Lampung Provincial Board for the 2026–2030 term. Following his election, Evan reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening internal consolidation as a foundation for building a more solid and competitive FOBI Lampung organization. He emphasized the importance of mapping the real conditions of the organization and athlete development before setting long-term performance targets.
“Our first step is to gather all board members and affiliates, sit together, and identify the challenges faced at the district and city levels. The closest priority is ensuring FOBI Lampung’s participation in the Provincial Sports Week (PORPROV), so that we can further establish our presence within KONI Lampung,” Evan stated. He also expressed strong support for the initiative to position lion dance as an icon of sport tourism in Lampung.
With the election of the new leadership and strong support from KONI Lampung and PB FOBI under the leadership of Chairman Edy Kusuma, FOBI Lampung is expected to usher in a new spirit in athlete development, strengthen regeneration, and elevate Lampung’s lion dance achievements on the national and international stage.
