The Indonesian Dragon and Lion Dance Sport Federation (FOBI), in collaboration with the International Dragon and Lion Dance Federation (IDLDF), successfully organized the National Dragon Dance Coaches Training 2025 on Saturday–Sunday, September 20–21, 2025, at Sunlake Waterfront Resort & Convention, Jakarta.
The program was attended by 45 dragon dance coaches from various provinces across Indonesia, aiming to equip them with the knowledge and skills to further develop the sport of dragon dance and transfer expertise to athletes nationwide.
The training was led by IDLDF international trainer, Gao Jie 高杰 Laoshi, supported by national trainers Mr. Wan Gust Halim, Mr. Tan Wilyanto, Mr. Tjokro Pontjoharyo, and Mr. Andri Wijaya. The curriculum covered theory, practical sessions, and examinations. All participants engaged in intensive sessions, culminating in practical demonstrations guided directly by the instructors.
At the closing ceremony on Sunday evening, September 21, 2025, FOBI President Mr. Edy Kusuma emphasized the importance of enhancing the quality of coaches:
“FOBI has a calendar of championships at the local, national, and international levels. Therefore, every dragon dance coach must prepare themselves and nurture their athletes to be ready for these championships, and to achieve the best results for Indonesia.”
Also present at the closing ceremony were members of the FOBI Central Board, including Vice Presidents Mr. Dedy Rochimat, Mr. Hansen Ng, Mr. Tony Herman, Mr. Xaverius Djunair, and Mr. Lexyndo Hakim, along with FOBI Executive Chairman Mr. Arifin Himawan, Secretary General Mr. Heryanto Salim, and Deputy Secretary General Mr. Andrean Wijaya.
Through this training, FOBI hopes to produce more qualified coaches who will strengthen the growth of dragon dance in Indonesia, achieve greater accomplishments, and elevate the sport to compete on the international stage.
