Merauke, June 20, 2025 – The Indonesian Dragon and Lion Dance Federation (FOBI) of South Papua Province participated in the Inauguration and Oath-taking Ceremony of the Regional Executive Board of the National Sports Committee of Indonesia (KONI) for South Papua Province, held at Swiss-Belhotel Merauke, Jl. Raya Mandala, Merauke. FOBI’s involvement was a form of support for the development of sports in the region, as well as a way to introduce lion dance as a cultural and competitive sport.
FOBI presented one lion dance team with two lions, performed by young athletes from the internal training program. The 10-minute performance opened the event and immediately caught the attention of the invited guests. With its dynamic opening formation and respectful greetings to VIPs, the performance created a festive and exciting atmosphere.
This lion dance performance was not only entertainment, but also a symbol of synergy between FOBI and KONI as the official regional sports authority. It demonstrated that lion dance is not just about tradition, but also about discipline, teamwork, and the spirit of sportsmanship—values that are in line with KONI’s mission to advance sports in South Papua.
The Chairman of FOBI South Papua Province stated that participating in official events like this is part of the organization’s commitment to promote lion dance as a growing and recognized sport, both regionally and nationally. Through this event, FOBI hopes to strengthen collaboration among sports organizations and encourage more young people in South Papua to explore and develop their talents in lion dance.
The ceremony ran smoothly, safely, and joyfully. The lion dance became one of the main attractions that brought a strong cultural touch to the event. FOBI’s presence also affirmed its active role in the local sports community. It is hoped that this kind of collaboration will continue to grow and help South Papua achieve excellence and success in the world of sports.
