Malang, June 27, 2025 — The 9th East Java Provincial Sports Week (PORPROV IX 2025) once again became a prestigious event that brought together the best young athletes from all across East Java. Held at Graha Cakrawala – State University of Malang, the Lion Dance championship took place from June 25 to 27, 2025, with great excitement and strong competitive spirit.

Organized by FOBI East Java, this event marked an important moment in the development and talent search for new lion dance athletes, especially among those under 23 years old. The participants were athletes from various cities and regencies in East Java, competing in six different categories: Speed Lion Dance, Acrobatic Lion Dance (Zou Tou), Obstacle Lion Dance, Speed Dragon Dance, Free Style Dragon Dance, and Traditional Lion Dance.
Almost all participating cities and regencies managed to win medals, showing the even progress of lion dance development throughout East Java. One of the main highlights of the championship was the outstanding performance of Kediri City, which emerged as the overall champion in the Lion Dance event. Kediri secured three gold medals and one silver from the five categories they entered. Gold medals were won in the Obstacle Lion Dance, Speed Lion Dance, and Free Style Dragon Dance categories, while the silver came from the Acrobatic Lion Dance (Zou Tou) category.

Chairman of KONI Kediri City, Eko Agus Koko, stated that this achievement reflects the results of a strong athlete development strategy and the high fighting spirit of young athletes. He also mentioned that as of June 27, 2025, at 8:00 PM, the Kediri City contingent had collected a total of 58 medals in all PORPROV sports events—24 gold, 21 silver, and 13 bronze—placing them at the top of the provisional medal standings.

Support for the inclusion of the Lion Dance in PORPROV also came from the Mayor of Malang, Wahyu Hidayat, who encouraged the public to uphold sportsmanship and support all sports, including Lion Dance. Meanwhile, the Chairman of FOBI East Java, Chandra Wurianto Woo, expressed his appreciation to KONI East Java, the East Java Provincial Government, and the Malang City Government for their support in making the championship a success.
