Yogyakarta, July 16, 2025 – The Regional Board of the Indonesian Dragon and Lion Dance Federation (FOBI) in Yogyakarta successfully held the Dragon and Lion Dance Coaches Training on July 14–16, 2025. The event took place at two locations: The Malioboro Hotel & Conference Center and Sleman City Hall, and was attended by 22 coaches from various FOBI DIY member clubs.
This training aimed to improve the quality of dragon and lion dance coaches in the Yogyakarta region, while also aligning technical standards, training methodologies, and the latest regulations in accordance with FOBI’s national guidelines.
The training featured two speakers from the FOBI National Board, Heriyanto Salim and Tan Wiliyanto, who delivered sessions on coaching theory, basic and advanced techniques, and training management. Participants also received updated information on training safety and the latest competition rules.
Over the three-day training, participants underwent intensive learning sessions which ended with a competency evaluation. Coaches who passed the evaluation were awarded a Regional Coach Certificate as official recognition to coach under FOBI DIY.
Beyond individual skill improvement, the training also resulted in several important achievements, including:
- The development of regional technical training standards
- Identification of promising coaches for national-level development
- Strengthened coordination and networking among coaches and clubs in the region
- Formulation of follow-up recommendations such as advanced training and mapping of regional development needs
With this event successfully carried out, FOBI DIY hopes that the development of dragon and lion dance sports in Yogyakarta will become more systematic, high quality, and better directed toward higher-level competitions.
